The discovery of gold in 1862 started a rush of adventurers. Today, visitors still come to Barkerville to pan for gold and experience Gold Rush days. Of course, there are other ways to get a rush. Raft the whitewaters of the mighty Chilko, Chilcotin, and Fraser rivers.
With more than 8,000 pristine lakes, 17,000 kilometres (11,000 miles) of rivers and streams and 15,000 km (9,300 miles) of coastline, the fishing is fantastic. In fact, the only thing that rivals our abundance of trout and salmon is the variety of fishing resorts, lodges, guides, and outfitters.
