Shuswap

Shuswap Lake
Shuswap Lake is one of the largest warm water lakes in British Columbia. Shaped like an H, at the centre of Shuswap's H is Cinnemousan Narrows Provincial Park in Cinnemousan Narrows.

There you will find the Shuswap Lake Floating Store and gas stations. Bake Point is located on the main arm called North Shuswap, which is 60 kilometers long. The three other arms are Seymour Arm, which is 80 km long, Anstey Arm, is 40 km longs, and Salmon Arm, 90 km long. At the beginning of the Salmon Arm is a small town called Sicamous, travel by boat under the highway there and you are in Mara Lake, another large beautiful warm water lake. Travel west on the north Shuswap arm and you will go past the majestic Copper Island by Scotch Creek. Travel further down along the Little River and you will find yourself on Little Shuswap. Continue on down the South Thompson river from the Little Shuswap and you can travel all the way to Kamloops. This is just a sample of the exploring that is available on Shuswap lake, truly a boaters paradise.

Lake Activities

The Shuswap Lake is a Mecca for summer activities with enjoying the lake being the most popular activity, of course. Boaters, fishers, canoeists, house boaters, water skiers, wake boarders, and swimming enthusiasts all come to enjoy the calm warm waters of the lake and to work on their tans. For those thrill seekers, the Adams River Rafting Company offers guided rafting tours down the gorgeous Adams River

As for fishing, the lake is full of rainbow trout, lake trout, Dolly Gardens, salmon, sturgeon, and many other kinds of fish. Licenses are often checked, and everyone with a fishing rod must have a license. Licenses can be purchased at the Anglemont Marina and Store. North Shuswap Fishing Charters can also take you out on a guided Cabin Cruiser and supply you with all the gear. And if fishing isn't your thing and you would just like to relax on the lake, there is also a 2-hour boat tour out of St. Ives with Frank and Christine Vicen.

There are many beautiful areas to enjoy golfing, hiking, ATVing, and cycling along with all the water activities. Located just behind Celista, rate by Blake Point, is Crowfoot Mountain. Here you can experience beautiful back country trails that overlook the lake. Great for hiking, ATVing (ATV Rentals Anglemont) , mountain biking or just the view, Crowfoot mountain is a must.

For golfers there are some great Shuswap Regional golf locations. Locally Anglemont has a challenging nine-hole golf course at Anglemont Estates Golf Course , and you can also try your swing at the golfing range located at The Deck in Scotch Creek who also have a full restaurant. Located across the lake, about an hours drive, in Blind Bay, is the famous Shuswap Lake Estates Golf and Country Club 18-hole golf course.

Fall and Winter Activities

The North Shuswap is also known for some exciting attractions throughout the rest of the year. Every fall, the North Shuswap visitors and residents witness one of the most spectacular salmon spawning events in BC at the mouth of the Adams River, just before Scotch Creek, or see the Adams River Salmon Society. In the wintertime, the mountains just behind Celista, Crowfoot Mountain, has some of the best snowmobiling in the world, as the local snowmobile club would attest to. From high alpine bowls to flat out groomed trails, it has it all and you are located just 20 minutes from all the action. Even if there is little snow on the ground by the lake, you can "take to the hills" for some of the most spectacular snowmobiling and scenic beauty in Canada. North Shuswap snowmobile trails become alive with snowmobile enthusiasts. Snowmobilers from all levels come to venture through the hills and take in the breathtaking views of the lake and mountains beyond. Cross country skiing is also greatly enjoyed along the many winding lanes and trails up on the mountain or down by the lake.
